Every play. Every yard. And every point mattered in a Class C2 high school football classic Friday night in Oakland.
And it was one point that decided the outcome as undefeated Oakland-Craig rode a strong second half to a 21-20 win over Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur.
That one point was decided on one play.
Following BRLD’s Jackson Beaudette TD run late in the 4th quarter, the Wolverines went for the win with a two-point conversion.
With the game on the line, BRLD kept the ball in their best player’s hands, Will Gatzemeyer, who had a small opening. Unfortunately for him, the ‘turf monster’ got the best of him as Gatzemeyer lost his footing and slipped to the ground.
Following an unsuccessful onside kick attempt, Oakland-Craig ran three plays and was forced to punt.
With a long field and not much time, BRLD moved closer to the end zone but ran out of time as Oakland-Craig held on in a hard-fought battle by both teams.
