West Point’s American Legion Post #70 and its youth activities program have begun to raise funds for the local Junior and Senior baseball programs.
Last summer, the Junior and Senior Legion baseball teams represented West Point at the state tournaments. Both tournaments were held at sites too far to drive each day and required four-night stays at hotels in Crete and Ainsworth, which was costly for our American Legion Post.
With the 2017 state tournaments to be held in Alliance and Nebraska City, the same scenario could repeat itself this summer, so the effort is underway now to raise funds to prepare for that.
The program’s main source of income is from hosting district and state tournaments. Unfortunately, West Point was not selected to be a tournament host this year.
To help raise funds, the baseball teams will be having a pancake feed on Sunday, May 21, at the Nielsen Community Center. The American Legion program is seeking businesses and organizations to “step up the plate” and help sponsor it.
