Cadet wrestling

West Point-Beemer’s Gary Walker has a tight squeeze on Logan View’s Gavin Nielsen in a 220-pound match in last Thursday’s home dual. Walker came away with a pin in the match. Logan View, however, took the win, 66-15, over the Cadets.

There will be better days for West Point-Beemer wrestling as wins were hard to come by for the Cadets at their home Friday Night Fracas last week.

West Point-Beemer did post dual wins over Winnebago and BRLD, but had a much harder time in their three losses, which came to Nebraska City, Millard North and Omaha Bryan.

Millard North finished as the top team, while the Cadets were 4th.

“We were not at full strength, but the good thing is this team never quit,” Cadet head coach Jason Redmond said. “Even with less experience, we didn’t back down from the Class A competition.”

West Point-Beemer will return two wrestlers with varsity experience this week. However, the Cadets lost one varsity wrestler, Gary Walker, due to a shoulder injury. His return is unknown.

“Mat time and more matches are needed to gain experience and confidence going forward,” Redmond said.
