State medal winner

Bluejay Cash Meier wrestles the edge and maintains control of North Platte St. Pat’s Justin Schroll. Meier finished this match in dramatic fashion with an overtime pin. Meier also closed out the 2020 State Wrestling tourney with a 5th-place finish, which was GACC’s first state wrestling medal in 10 years.

Cash Meier was in pin mode at the 2020 NSAA State Wrestling tournament held last week at the CHI Health Center in Omaha. The Guardian Angels Central Catholic junior collected four wins in his Class D 182-pound bracket. All four wins were by pin. Thanks to his performance, Meier collected a 5th-place medal, and by doing so, became the program’s first state medalist in 10 years.

“That’s awesome for the program. It shows the things this program is capable of,” Bluejay head coach Ryan Miller said. “Cash was 7-15 as a freshman. In two short years, he’s really turned things around. He’s been dedicated and has worked his butt off.”
