BRLD senior Will Gatzemeyer delivers a pass during the 4th quarter of the Class C2 state semifinal game Friday in Lyons. Gatzemeyer finished the game with 86 rushing yards and 319 yards passing, but it wasn’t enough as Sutton clinched a 38-28 win over BRLD, ending the Wolverines’ season.

Ground and pound football. Smash-mouth football. Call it what you want. Sutton’s power rushing attack keyed the Mustangs to a 38-28 win over Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur in the Class C2 state football semifinals Friday at Lyons.

Sutton piled up 539 yards of total offense in the win. Every single one of those yards came on the ground. Quarterback Cade Wiseman and running back Jackson Perrien anchored that rushing attack. A big and physical offensive line paved the way for that rushing duo.
