Bluejay wrestling

Bluejay George Fraher puts Logan Mueller of Clearwater/Orchard to his back, but no back-points were awarded as the headlock was deemed illegal due to there not being an arm in with the hold during Saturday’s wrestling meet at Winside.

The notion of wrestling being an individual sport can be proven wrong on a day like Guardian Angels Central Catholic had on Saturday at the Winside Invite.

Every wrestler played their part in the Bluejays netting 74 team points to earn a 6th-place finish at the Winside tournament.

“That was an amazing tournament for us. We had guys who really stepped it up,” Bluejay head coach Ryan Miller said.

Of GACC’s eight wrestlers, seven were medal winners.

Ethan Baumert and Cash Meier were the top finishers for the Bluejays as they collected 2nd-place medals. Damon Crawford and Mitchell Peatrowsky also scored double-digit points for GACC. Both placed 3rd.

Other Bluejay medalists were Jack Baumert (4th), Josh Jansen (5th) and George Fraher (5th).
