Give up or battle. Those were the two options West Point-Beemer faced after falling into an 18-2 hole to start the game. Their choice came as no surprise. The Cadets did what they’ve done all season long. They battled.
That fight, determination and heart is what sparked West Point-Beemer to its 53-43 come-from-behind win over O’Neill in the girls C1-4 District finals Thursday at Norfolk High School.
With their district title win, West Point-Beemer clinched the program’s first state tournament berth since 1977.
“We’ve talked since the very beginning about this. Going to state has been our goal. They knew the work that was required to make it there, and they put in that work and then some,” Cadet head coach Taylor Shepard said.
“It’s just great to see such a great group of girls with such great chemistry be rewarded like this.”
