In a response to the City of Wisner and the Wisner Care Center, the accounting firm of Almquist, Maltzahn, Galloway and Luth pointed to one major factor for the facility and a net position increase of $98,357 for fiscal year 2016-2017- census.

In a discussion with the council at the most recent council meeting, a representative from the auditing firm was quick to say that most nursing homes in the state are experiencing declining census, while the Care Center saw an increase this past fiscal year.

The more than $98 thousand net position increase was one of three financial highlights in the auditing report presented to the council. The others being that the Care Center’s assets exceed liabilities by $1,025,324, and that the operating revenues the past fiscal year increased by $289,388, while the operating expenses rose $150,083, for an operating income of $63,211. The 2015-2016 operating loss was $76,094.

Two factors that led to a nearly $47 thousand increase in revenue from the previous fiscal year were a more than $48 thousand increase in donations and grants, along with an $8,172 city sales tax support.
