Following a brief closed session on Monday, the Wisner City Council voted in favor of asking the Wisner-Pilger schools for a 75-day extension with regards to the letter of interest submitted to the school recently.

The letter of interest was in regards to the building that previously was used by the W-P Elementary School on 12th St.

The move comes one week after Wisner Mayor Dave Brown and City Council President Steve Kumm announced they were pulling the proposed plan to move the Wisner Senior Center and Wisner Library to the facility, if the city purchased it.

Brown has also stated that he feels he owes it to the people of Wisner to continue exploring possible uses for the building. With that, he is forming a committee of five to look into potential options for the facility. Results of a recent inspection of the building have not been presented to the public.

In other action at Monday’s Wisner City Council meeting, a report was presented by Wisner Police Chief Terry Soden on his evaluation of safety concerns on streets and sidewalks around the W-P schools.
