At its regular monthly meeting this Monday, the Wisner-Pilger School Board will consider a recommendation to approve a declaration for Wisner-Pilger to play eight-man football during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons.

The Gators qualify for eight-man play because of a recent change by the NSAA on the count as to how teams are classified. The count is now based off a three-year boy only count.

That three-year count for W-P is at 46 boys, which is one student under the 47 necessary to qualify as an eight-man school.

While the declaration is for the next two seasons, W-P would qualify for a mid-year waiver, making the team eligible to play eight-man for the two seasons to follow (2020-2021, 2021-2022). However, if the recommendation to play eight-man is approved by the board this year, the board would again need to reconsider the classification for football again after the 2019-2020 season.
