Doug Salmen, a 27-year veteran of rural police forces, Monday became Wisner’s new police chief. His selection was approved by a 4-0 vote, ending a search process that involved interviews with several candidates over the last few months.

Salmen’s most recent job was in a similar role in the police department of Niobrara. Mayor Chad Dixon and council members Barry Meyer and Terry Soden were members of the selection committee.
