Veterans, students and the public gathered at Wisner-Pilger School to honor Veterans Day with a patriotic program.

The keynote address was given by veteran Ben Marksmeier, a graduate of Wisner-Pilger School. He served in the Army National Guard from 2003 through 2007. Marksmeier fought in Iraq from Oct. 31, 2005 until he was injured on July 31, 2006, and lost his leg. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and other commendations.
