Life is different now for a local family than it was last week. A Beemer mother and her son were among those attending the Nebraska Special Olympics at the Fremont YMCA on Feb. 29. They received a phone call this Saturday and were told another person at the event tested positive for the Coronavirus, or Covid-19.

Stacy Schlickbernd said she initially received a phone call from her son’s basketball coach that another competitor in the event had tested positive for the virus. Both players and coaches were being advised to self-quarantine. Stacy had helped coach the West Point Special Olympics team, so she knew that meant both she and Brody, 17, wouldn’t be leaving the house for a while.
