Doug Salmen, Wisner’s new police chief, officially assumed his duties on Jan. 3. Prior to moving to Wisner, Salmen had been the police chief in Niobrara for the last 15 years.

“My wife and I decided we weren’t getting any younger and we have grandkids in the area,” said Salmen about his decision to apply for the Wisner police position.

Salmen has a long history in law enforcement. His father was a police captain and his brother is a retired state trooper.
